Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Heggie.

Hi Jeff, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?

I grew up in Southern Alberta and developed a love for sports. A lot of that came from wanting to be like my older brother. I would watch him playing a sport and want to do the same. That was the same way I got into coaching. He was a varsity basketball coach and I ended up joining his coaching staff which turned into 20+ years of coaching basketball at different levels.

When I graduated from college with a major in Entrepreneurship, I was offered a great opportunity in the banking industry. But I was also a professional rodeo cowboy at the time and turned down the banking opportunity to pursue my rodeo career.

Later, I did end up going into the banking industry, which I loved. But I still had the entrepreneur bug and knew that I wanted to be doing something on my own. I began with real estate and built a portfolio of duplexes and a mini-storage facility.

One of the things I loved about being a bank manager was the opportunity that I had to spend with entrepreneurs and learn about their businesses. One day I was in a client’s office and he had a catalog on his desk for the artificial stone veneer that he was putting on the homes he was building. As I looked through the catalog, my thought was, “I could do this.”

To make a long story short, that client, Dal Zemp, ended up becoming my mentor and partner. I left the banking industry and I went through a very steep learning curve to learn the manufactured stone business. We opened our first factory in Cardston AB in 2005 and in 2006 opened our second factory in Springville UT.

Being in the home building industry, we had to pivot the company a number of times. We ended up not only manufacturing our own product but we also opened our own retail locations and brought in other products as well.

This was a business we operated for 16 years. For various reasons, during the pandemic, we made the decision to shut it down.

During my time running our manufacturing company, I had the opportunity to mentor and coach in various ways. I was able to continue coaching basketball as well as my kids football and baseball teams. I also had many opportunities to act as a coach or mentor to entrepreneurs in many different fields.

After we shut the manufacturing company down, I gave all of my focus to my coaching.

On the athletic side, I no longer coach basketball, but I have The Confident Athlete Program ( that has allowed me to continue working with athletes in many different sports.

Most of my coaching now is done with entrepreneurs with my programs, courses, and coaching programs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

During the 16 years I ran our manufacturing company, I learned a lot. Being involved directly with the home building industry, we saw ups and downs every time the economy changed.

The experiences I had in that business had a big impact on my decision to become a business coach. There were a lot of hard lessons that I had to learn on my own and those experiences have allowed me to help my clients either avoid similar situations, or get through them smoother.

There were also many successes I’ve had because I have had coaches or mentors help me through difficult challenges. So I’ve always been able to see the value in a coach and what they bring to the table.

When we shut the manufacturing business down during the pandemic, it was a tough thing to do. But what I learned most during that time is the importance of your circle. Who are the people you surround yourself with? We are the people that are on your side no matter what happens. Who are the people you can turn to for help and support? It’s times like this that tell you a lot about people.

We’ve been impressed with Jeff Heggie Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

As I’ve mentioned previously, one of my passions is athletics. I love working with athletes and know that by helping them develop their mental strength, they can achieve much more and reach their full potential. I’m able to work with athletes at all levels through a program I run with Tami Matheny, called The Confident Athlete Program –

The main focus of Jeff Heggie Coaching is to work with entrepreneurs.

My focus is to teach people to be optimal performing entrepreneurs. We obviously want to put a lot of focus and attention on growing their businesses, but to me, an optimal performing entrepreneur is much more than that. If you have a successful business, but your relationships, health, and other areas are falling apart, you are not a success.

We focus on building successful businesses, but we also focus on other areas such as Family/Relationships, Finances, Spirituality, Health & Fitness, and Personal Development.

I offer a number of different options with my coaching programs from the one-on-one personal coaching, to my membership site (, group coaching, masterminds, and courses (

How do you think about luck?

There have definitely been times during my business when I’ve looked at a situation and thought that our good luck made things work out. I’ve also had times when I have wondered why we had such bad luck.

I appreciate any time that we have good luck comes our way. But I’m also a believer that we create our own luck. When you’re doing the right things and surrounding yourself with the right people, you put yourself in more situations to be able to receive “good luck.”

Even some of the “bad luck” situations I have been in have a new perspective with the passage of time. Often we will be in a situation where we feel that we’ve had bad luck and then whether it’s soon after, or years after, we can look back and see the lessons learned, or even the blessings we received because it turned out different than we had hoped at the time.
